Pharmacie
The French love their pharmacies. They just can't get enough of them. There seem to be more pharmacies and opticians in our local town than anything else (probably even bakeries) - they are also almost the only shops which open early and stay open late.
I went into one at 9am yesterday to get Alex some cream for some lurgy-ish reaction he's had to something in the garden and it was already packed out. With nothing else to do I had a good nose at what everyone else was getting. No-one was getting just one thing - everyone - young, healthy-looking people - seemed to be getting boxes and boxes of stuff.
Most intriguing was the woman next to me who seemed to suffer from "heavy legs". What on earth is that? On the shelves there also seemed to be remedies for light legs and active legs. The mind boggles.
